2025年8月17日に愛知県の豊橋市にある「のんほいパーク」でライオンの三つ子の赤ちゃんが生まれました。
そして、今週の初めには子ライオン達の命名式が行われました。
命名は三つ子ちゃん達のお母さんであるシルクちゃんが候補の中から選ぶというものでした。
選ばれたのは8月生まれということにあやかり、”夏の大三角形”を形作る３つの一等星。
「織姫星」として有名なこと座のベガ、「彦星」のわし座のアルタイル、はくちょう座のデネブ。
これらの星から、ベガ♀、アル♂、デン♂という名前を授かりました。
仔ライオン達は生まれてから、しばらくはお母さんのシルクと一緒に過ごしていました。
赤ちゃんはスクスクと成長して柵越しに父親のアースとも対面し、10月20日の同居訓練を経て翌日から親子の同居も一般公開されました。
お母さんのシルクも手を焼くほどのヤンチャぶりで、父親のアースにも物おじせずに近寄る姿もありました。
アースは神経質な一面もあり、噛んだりすり寄って来る赤ちゃん達に怒った顔を見せることもありますが、父親らしく見守る姿もありました。
お母さんのシルクも４年ほど前に生まれた息子の「スカイ」を立派に育てた経験もあり、仔ライオン達を落ち着いて育てている様子でした。
ライオンは今後100年の間に絶滅する確率が10％以上と言われるレッドリストの危急にも該当しています。
1990年代初めに行われた調査では1950年には10万から40万頭ほどいたとされていたそうです。
ですが、生息地の減少と人間との衝突で個体数の減少も進み、2002年から2004年の段階で1万6千から4万7千頭にまで減ったと推測されています。
日本では動物園などでも人気の高いライオンですが、現地では人間の生活を脅かす脅威とみなされていることも少なくありません。
生存の危機にさらされたライオンを保護するカギは、地元の人を助けることにあるとも言われています。
アフリカ出身が代表を務めるNPO団体では、“人のために行動すれば、ライオンのためにもなる”を合言葉としているそうです。
絶滅の危惧や脅威にさらされている動物の中には、動物を脅威とみなされ排除されたり、商品価値を見出した人間による乱獲も関係しています。
動物たちの愛おしい姿を見て、こうした野生での現状や現地の方の生活にも目を向けて頂けると幸いです。

【イベント紹介】茶臼山動物園の人気イベント!!『サマーナイトZOO』が今年も開催します！夜の動物たちを観察しよう♪
茶臼山動物園では年間を通して色々なイベントを実施しています。
今回は夏季に開催される夜間動物園（ナイトZOO）ついてご紹介します。
ナイトZOOでは日中には見ることができない、夜行性の動物の行動を観察することができます。
園内は外灯の他、モニュメントや看板が電飾でライトアップされているので、普段と違った動物園の雰囲気を味わうことができます。
また、ウマやケヅメリクガメが園内を練り歩く納涼タイムも見ものです。
この他にも普段は展示室やバックヤードにいるアルマジロやボールパイソンなどを間近で観察したり、動物解説やネズミさんたちのレース大会やグッズ販売などのイベントも盛りだくさんです。

【イベント紹介】ライオンのカジカジタイム（茶臼山動物園）
茶臼山動物園では年間を通して色々なイベントを実施しています。
今回は人気の高いライオンのイベントについて紹介します。
茶臼山動物園のライオンがいる「ライオンの丘」は、開園40周年を記念して新設され、令和5年4月22日に一般公開されました。
ライオンのカジカジタイムでは、カルシウム摂取と環境エンリッチメントの向上の為に牛の骨をおやつとして与えるそうです。
イベントを開始するとすぐに来たのはメスのライオンの「つむぎ」でした。
「つむぎ」の反応とは対照的にオスのライオンの「臼三」は全く興味を示しませんでした。
飼育員さんの話では「臼三」はあまり牛骨が好きではないとのことでした。
牛骨は２頭のライオンに１本ずつ用意されていましたが、「臼三」は最後まで興味を示すことなく、「つむぎ」が２本とも堪能しました。
「つむぎ」が十分に牛骨を堪能して満足すると「臼三」の元へ戻っていきました。
こうした野生の動物の自然な姿は見る機会も少ないと思うので、機会がありましたら、ぜひ参加して頂きたいです (^-^)

茶臼山動物園のイベント紹介（アルマジロ）
アルマジロのお散歩（2024年5月26日参加）
茶臼山動物園では今まで中止していたイベントが再開されていました。
今回は以前参加した「アルマジロのお散歩」を紹介したいと思います。
茶臼山動物園には５頭のアルマジロをしているそうです。
今回はアルマジロのいつき♂（４歳）が来てくれました。
人懐こい男の子です。
アルマジロは20種類ほどいるそうですが、完全に丸まることができるのは、ミツオビアルマジロとマタコミツオビアルマジロの種類だけだとそうです。
アルマジロの特徴や飼育されている個体の情報を聞きながら、間近でアルマジロの様子を観察することができました。
アルマジロは展示室でも見ることができるのですが、隠れていたり動きが素早いこともあって、じっくり観察する機会が中々ありません。
イベントでは、広いスペースで走り回るアルマジロの姿も見ることができました。
茶臼山動物園では飼育している動物の解説やふれあいなど色々な体験を開催しています。
